Phuket Brewery in Phuket Town

Ad: 99/99 Chalermprakiat R.9n Road, Kathu (opposite Tesco-Lotus supermarket). Tel: 076-612885-8 Phuket Brewery is a new show-and-entertainment venue and a welcome addition to the Phuket Town nightlife scene. It has all the best elements of a pub, a restaurant and a theater rolled into one. This is a decent place to check out a local scene. The brewery is located directly opposite Tesco-Lotus in Phuket Town. Inside the brewery there is a massive hall with a huge stage and a seating capacity of more than 1,000 along with VIP rooms for private groups. The nightly show starts at 7 pm. Entertainment comes in many forms, such as live music, magic shows, juggling, acrobatics and traditional Southern Thai dance. You can kick back with dinner and be entertained for an entire night. What’s more, admission is free. The Phuket brewery has its own beer, Pearl Beer, brewed in-house at a micro-brewery. A one-liter jug of beer will cost you around 250 to 350 baht depending on your style. There are three different kinds of Pearl Beer: a lager, a dark beer and a wheat beer. If you don’t like beer, there is also a cocktail menu. The food menu has various Thai dishes, including deep-fried pork knuckle –- brewery style. Delicious. Phuket Brewery is occasionally used a venue to host special events, such as concerts. Famous Thai bands like Sek Loso and Carabao have graced the stage in recent months. Even if you’re unfamiliar with Thai bands, the big concerts are always worth checking out. Cheap beer and a crowd of excited locals usually make for a good night’s fun. If there is a special event on, tickets are about 150 to 250 baht, which will include a drink. Also, every Thursday night is ladies’ night, which means all females get a special cocktail for free. Oddly, there’s also a hoteliers’ night on Mondays. Show your hotelier ID card and get a 15%...

Rockin' Angels nightclub in Phuket City

Ad: Yaowarat Rd. Web: www.rockinangels.com Rockin’ Angels is a little bar on Yaowarat Rd that you might have walked past 100 times before you even knew it was there. Most of the time, it’s a pretty lazy hangout serving drinks and friendly chats. It’s a chilled kind of Phuket City bar most of the time, but at night when there are enough people around, once the band starts playing, the parties can go on until the early hours with people spilling out into the street. During low season the entertainment tends to be provided by CD, but come high season, once all the tourists are in and the teachers are out in force, Rockin’ Angels becomes a hive of activity. Phuket nightlife is full of little nightspots such as Rockin’ Angels. Coming from the Old Phuket Town roundabout, you’ll find Rockin’ Angels on your right just before the first intersection. Jam sessions have been known to occur at the drop of a hat and there are always a few hipsters hanging out and soaking up the...

Michael’s Bar in Phuket City

Ad: 12 Takua-Pa Road, Phuket City. Tel: 076-256562, 081-2722392, 081-8914539. This bar in Phuket City is something of an institution. Recently renovated, they have everything you could possibly want from a bar in Phuket City, including a pool table, draught beer, cocktails and a mediocre wine list. They have a happy hour every day from 4 pm to 8 pm, during which time all beers are 60 baht. This is also a bar in Phuket City that offers free Wi-Fi Internet, a rarity in Phuket. They show sports on large TVs and have some pretty waitresses to ogle at if that’s your thing. It’s a popular pub in Phuket City with tourists as it appears in pretty much every guidebook under the sun. It’s not the most exciting place for a night out in Phuket City, but it’s cheap, cheerful and...

James Garden beer garden in Phuket Town

Ad: Poonpol Rd Soi 1, Phuket Town. After-hours clubs and bars in Phuket Town are rare, but James Garden is always there as an option if you want to drink in Phuket Town late at night. The place is massive and open-air, making it a cool bar in Phuket Town to relax with friends and drink until the early hours of the morning. James Garden isn’t really a bar you go to if you want to dance, but as more of a beer garden than a bar, it has a real local feel to it and isn’t usually found by tourists looking to sample nightlife in Phuket Town. Pick your poison from various brands of whiskey or towers of beer. If you’re in a large enough group, you won’t spend much more than a couple of hundred baht during a night at this bar. Beer gardens are definitely among the cooler places to go out in Phuket Town. James Garden also serves...

KorTorMor nightclub in Phuket City

Ad: Chana Charoen Rd, near Nimit Circle. Tel: 076-232285. Pretty much an institution when it comes to where to go out in Phuket Town, KorTorMor is a victim of its own success sometimes, becoming so busy on Fridays and Saturdays that you might not even be able to get into the club. KorTorMor is a fun Phuket club, though, with some of the best local bands playing there every night. Grab a bottle of your favorite whiskey, set yourself up at a table and enjoy your night. There’s no cover charge and this nightclub sometimes host famous Thai indie bands. If you want to party in Phuket City, KorTorMor should definitely be on your itinerary at some point. The club attracts everyone, including students, random locals, expats and tourists. The place is well known by everyone, so it’s easy enough to find. KorTorMor is definitely one of the better clubs in Phuket...

T2 nightclub in Phuket City

Ad: Clock Town Circle, next to Metropole Hotel, Phuket City. Lively little club in Phuket City that doesn’t offer much more than other clubs in the area, but if you’re in Phuket City and you’re staying near Surin Circle, T2 is worth a look. You’ll have to fight your way past a barrage of about 100 motorcycle-taxi drivers who will try and persuade you to ride with them to somewhere with “lady”, but if you can resist that urge, there is fun to be had in T2. As with most of the bars and clubs in Phuket City, T2 is all about bands and DJs. Get down early, pick a table, buy yourself a bottle of whiskey, and drink and dance until you can’t stand. The bands are usually pretty good, blasting out Thai indie music and the odd Western rock tune. The DJ plays a kind of techno-hip hop hybrid. It’s fun for what it is, but there are better clubs in Phuket City that aren’t all that far away. Music Matters is round the corner if it all gets a bit too...

Oasis nightclub in Phuket City

Ad: Mae Luang Rd, Phuket City. Oasis is a small Thai club in Phuket City that plays the usual ensemble of rock and indie hits, similar to KorTorMor, but not as big. The bands are usually pretty good and, being a smaller club, the atmosphere is always fun. The good thing about Oasis is that it isn’t too popular, so you can turn up on Friday or Saturday night, find space to chill in and have enough room to dance without people stepping on your toes. The crowd is almost all Thai and beer is cheap, as are bottles of whiskey. As with most Thai clubs in Phuket, after the Thai band has run through its range of rock-music hits, a DJ comes on to blast out bizarrely fast techno music, which usually gets most people dancing. There is no cover charge at Oasis, but you can’t smoke inside, expect in the toilets. Not the best club in Phuket City, but it can be a lot of...

Barzah nightclub in Phuket Town

Ad: Phun Pol Rd. If you’re brave enough to venture to Phunpol on the shady side of town, you can party late at this hip hop club in Phuket Town that usually stays open until about 2 am or later. Barzah is in a part of Phuket Town that is safe so long as you’re not wandering the streets aimlessly at 4 am. The music at this Phuket Town nightclub is incredibly loud, but it’s fun if you’re drunk and if you fancy dancing with a large group of local kids. Foreigners are rare at Barzah, but they’re not unwelcome. This is definitely not a place for old dudes to hang out and pick up girls, though. The club scene in Phuket Town is pretty diverse for such a small area — and Barzah is just one of many clubs that are worth checking out. Beers are a little overpriced, but there is no cover charge. Barzah is also one of the few air-conditioned Phuket Town clubs that still allows...

Timberhut nightclub in Phuket City

Ad: 118/1 Yaowarat Rd, Phuket City. Tel: 076-211839. Probably the most famous and well-known club in Phuket. Timberhut is something of an institution in the Phuket City club scene. This Phuket City nightspot has been around for more than 18 years. The music of choice is nothing exceptional, with Thai bands doing their thing and DJs rupturing eardrums in between. This is probably the busiest club in Phuket City, especially on Fridays and Saturday, when you won’t be able to move, let alone dance. Timberhut is best visited during the week when there are less people. The crowd is half Thai, half foreigners and so the place can feel a little weird at times. There aren’t a whole bunch of clubs in Phuket City, but Timberhut is worth a look if you’re in town. The drinks are cheap enough and the boys and girls are a young, friendly bunch out for a good...

Music Matters jazz bar in Phuket Town

Ad: Off Surin Circle, Phuket Town, past T2 and turn right. Ah, Music Matters. Not a lot of people know about this small jazz bar in Phuket Town because it’s totally out of the way and tucked around the corner from Surin Circle. If you do end up at Music Matters, you’ll be treated to tracks from owner Jeff’s music collection. The bar is normally quiet and stays open until whenever people decide to go home. For a quiet drink or for somewhere to sink a few after hours, this Phuket Town bar is perfect. The place is open-air with only about a half-dozen tables. On some nights, a group of Jeff’s buddies come together and form a makeshift band. The vibe is totally laid back and very local, attracting a small, but dedicated, following among expats and travelers. Beer is cheap. This is pure no-frills drinking, but it’s fun and it’s rare to find a bar like this in Phuket...
