DeDos fusion restaurant in Cherng Talay

Ad: 8 Lagoon Rd, Cherng Talay, Talang. Tel: 076-325-182. Email: info@dedos-restaurant.com Web: www. dedos-restaurant.com VV–VVV This restaurant is apparently inspired by Asian street kitchens and their various offerings of light bites and finger food. DeDos means “fingers” or “from two” in Spanish, which is fitting because there are two chefs, Christoph and Pablo. You basically get to sample lots of small dishes and try out various combos with glimpses of Asian, Japanese, French, Med and Thai fare all thrown into the mix. It’s certainly an interesting concept. The chefs are always on hand to recommend dishes. On the menu you have such treats as home-smoked duck breast, Aussie lamb chops and lobster passion. There are hot and cold dishes depending on what you’re in the mood for. Everything comes immaculately presented and the restaurant has a very modern, chic vibe to it. What really matters is that the food is rather delectable, although it can get a little pricey if you’re feeling particularly hungry. Every Friday they have unlimited sushi for 390 per person – a bargain if ever there was one. This is an intriguiing Phuket restaurant that is certainly worth a look if you’re up for something a bit...

Web: www.the9thfloor.com Email: contact@the9thfloor.com VV–VVV It seems to have become a bit of a trend for Swiss restaurateurs to set up shop in Phuket. The number of high-quality Swiss-run restaurants on the island increases every year. The restaurant is located in the Sky Inn Condotel on, you guessed it, the ninth floor. The food is a blend of international dishes with a smattering of Swiss specialities thrown into the mix. Being so high in the sky, the views out over Patong are another boon for this Phuket eatery. The décor of the restaurant is all black and white with large windows from floor to ceiling offering those great views. This is a chic Patong restaurant and you’ll feel uncomfortable if you turn up in short and sandals. The wine list has something like 180 labels, so you know you’re in for a treat here. The Royal Kitchen Chinese restaurant in Patong

Ad: Royal Paradise Hotel, Rat-U-Thit Road. Tel: 076-340-666. VV Perched atop the Royal Paradise Hotel in the center of Patong’s Paradise Complex is the Royal Kitchen, a fun Chinese restaurant that has gone all out in the décor department, as you might expect to find at Paradise Complex. The food is delightful at this Phuket restaurant. It’s definitely one of the better Chinese eateries in the area. The restaurant seats 140 and you’re treated to great views out over the rabble in Patong down below. As far as Patong restaurants go, the Royal Kitchen is reasonably formal. It would make sense to dress smartly if you were planning to dine here. The atmosphere is laidback and calm, with a Filipino band providing the musical accompaniment for the evening. There’s also a wine list with almost 30 labels on it. Check out the Phuket set menu for five courses of fine Chinese nosh. Open for lunch and...

Terrazzo Italian restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Patong

Ad: Terrazzo in Holiday Inn Resort Phuket, 52 Thaweewong Road, Patong. Tel: 076-340-608. VV Terrazzo is the Holiday Inn’s signature restaurant. It’s a great place to grab a meal after a day of loafing around on the beach in Patong. This Patong restaurant primarily focuses on Italian food, but there are a number of other dishes on the menu. There’s a great deck terrace for al fresco dining at Terrazzo. The décor is bright and breezy with bold splashes of color through the restaurant. There’s an open kitchen and a wood-fired oven to keep patrons entertained while they’re waiting for their meals. There’s indoor and outdoor dining. This certainly isn’t one of Phuket’s most stylish joints, but it’s a decent place to grab a bite to eat. There’s also a popular bar at Terrazzo that attracts a fair-sized crowd from one night to the next. The pizzas are tasty enough, although there are some unusual toppings, such as chicken tandoori with mango...

Pinocchio pizzeria in Chalong

Ad: From Chalong Circle heading to Rawai, go 500 meters and it’s on the left after post office and 7-Eleven. Tel: 089-594-7195. VV Some people say that Pinocchio serves up the best pizzas in Phuket. We aren’t going to argue with that as the pizzas are mighty fine – and at 195 baht a pop you can’t really complain. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven and all the usual suspects are available for toppings. Pinocchio also has a range of in Swiss specialties and fondues on the menu. This Phuket restaurant has a natural kind of chic about it. The bar area was painted by a local artist and it looks interesting enough. If you aren’t keen on pizza, the pasta dishes are also decent. The Swiss chef definitely knows his way around the kitchen. Other areas of the menu worth exploring include the 195-baht hot plates of shrimp, squid and mussels, as well as the beef tenderloin, which costs 425 a...

Two Chefs European food in Kata and Karon

Ad: 5/6 Moo 2, Patak Rod, Kata Beach. Tel: 076-284-155. Web: www.twochefs-phuket.com Email: info@twochefs-phuket.com VV As you might have guessed, Two Chefs is a Phuket restaurant run by, well, two chefs. Actually, there are three Two Chefs restaurants in Phuket. Confused? Billy and Henrik are a pair of lovable Swedes who serve up all manner of international dishes, as well as a fine selection of local favourites. Fans of roast meat will find lots of decent cuts on the menu to choose from. The food is really rather good at Two Chefs and there is an equally good wine list to complement it. The prices of the food are definitely worth raving about. For 295 baht you can net yourself pepper-grilled chicken breast with a creamy, brandy-flavoured pepper sauce, baked tomato, sautèed veg and potato gratin. If that isn’t enough to get you salivating, be sure to try out the chocolate brownie with amaretto cream. It’s a great dessert and it’s only 145 baht. The second restaurant is located on the first flood of the Kata Centre, while the third is in Karon, located centrally on the thoroughfare of Karon’s north...

Rockfish fine dining in Kamala

Ad: 33/6 Kamala Beach Rd, Kamala, Kathu. Tel: 076-279-732. Web: www.rockfishrestaurant.com Email: eat@rockfishrestaurant.com VV Rockfish holds the accolade of being rated as Phuket’s best restaurant according to Thailand Tattler. All right, the restaurant won that award in 2005, but the food at Rockfish is still as good as ever and it’s definitely a place for a special meal in Phuket. This Phuket restaurant is located right on the beachfront in Kamala, with great views out over the sea and the hills in the background. Rockfish has a fine menu to sample from. The Australian beef burger is a firm favourite at just 260 baht, while for something a little more exotic, check out the grilled fillet of tama fish on a bed of jasmine rice, complete with pineapple, apple, mango, tomato, cucumber, sultana, cashew, coconut and sweet chili served with red curry sauce for 550 baht. It’s as much of a mouthful to say as it is to eat. Rockfish is a relaxed venue that stands out from other Phuket restaurants. Definitely worth a...

Email: book@catchbeachclub.com Web: www.catchbeachclub.com VVV Surin Beach has become something a hotspot when it comes to Phuket restaurants and nightlife. Along with new clubbing venue Stereo Lab, Catch Beach Club at the Twinpalms Phuket Hotel (one of the best Phuket hotels around) has suddenly been thrust into the limelight thanks to doubling in size and now having a new bar right on the beach. On the food menu there is everything from tiger prawns to blue crab, so there’s no excuse for not sampling a few of the delights on the menu. There are sun loungers on the beach to make a visit to Catch about as effortless as possible. Cold towels and magazines are also provided. Food is served from 11 am until about 11 pm with barbeques on Tuesdays and Fridays. The terrace stays open until about 1 am with funky music providing the soundtrack. Every Saturday night, Catch hosts White Night with DJ Pong. Mom Tri's Boathouse Regatta at Royal Phuket Marina

Ad: Royal Phuket Marina. Tel: 076-360-855. VVV Mom Tri’s Boathouse in Kata Beach is well known as one of Phuket’s best fine-dining restaurants. Mom Tri’s has now expanded its scope to include a restaurant at Royal Phuket Marina. Mom Tri’s Boathouse Regatta was officially opened in December 2008. It’s a great little spot for wining and dining in a tranquil location, next to the marina and the yachts owned by the island’s playboys and ladies of luxury. The interior of the restaurant reflects the nautical location. There’s an open-air bar, a dining area and a large wine cellar. The menu is typical of Mom Tri’s with a variety of French and Thai dishes, including several signature dishes from the executive chefs of the Boathouse. The food is always top notch at Mom Tri’s, although it has the price tag to match. Definitely one to take somebody you are trying to...
