DeDos fusion restaurant in Cherng Talay

Ad: 8 Lagoon Rd, Cherng Talay, Talang. Tel: 076-325-182. Email: info@dedos-restaurant.com Web: www. dedos-restaurant.com VV–VVV This restaurant is apparently inspired by Asian street kitchens and their various offerings of light bites and finger food. DeDos means “fingers” or “from two” in Spanish, which is fitting because there are two chefs, Christoph and Pablo. You basically get to sample lots of small dishes and try out various combos with glimpses of Asian, Japanese, French, Med and Thai fare all thrown into the mix. It’s certainly an interesting concept. The chefs are always on hand to recommend dishes. On the menu you have such treats as home-smoked duck breast, Aussie lamb chops and lobster passion. There are hot and cold dishes depending on what you’re in the mood for. Everything comes immaculately presented and the restaurant has a very modern, chic vibe to it. What really matters is that the food is rather delectable, although it can get a little pricey if you’re feeling particularly hungry. Every Friday they have unlimited sushi for 390 per person – a bargain if ever there was one. This is an intriguiing Phuket restaurant that is certainly worth a look if you’re up for something a bit...

Catch Beach Club restaurant and bar in Surin

Ad: Catch Beach Club, Surin Beach Road, Cherng Talay. Tel: 076-316516. Email: book@catchbeachclub.com Web: www.catchbeachclub.com VVV Surin Beach has become something a hotspot when it comes to Phuket restaurants and nightlife. Along with new clubbing venue Stereo Lab, Catch Beach Club at the Twinpalms Phuket Hotel (one of the best Phuket hotels around) has suddenly been thrust into the limelight thanks to doubling in size and now having a new bar right on the beach. Catch is a chic, trendy beach club where you can dine on fresh seafood, sink a few drinks at the bar or else simply take it easy in the Beach Lounge. On the food menu there is everything from tiger prawns to blue crab, so there’s no excuse for not sampling a few of the delights on the menu. There are sun loungers on the beach to make a visit to Catch about as effortless as possible. Cold towels and magazines are also provided. Food is served from 11 am until about 11 pm with barbeques on Tuesdays and Fridays. Catch might not be cheap (1,500-baht BBQ dinners with freeflow wine during low season and 300-baht-plus cocktails), but it is definitely worth splashing a bit of cash on for a special occasion. The terrace stays open until about 1 am with funky music providing the soundtrack. Every Saturday night, Catch hosts White Night with DJ Pong. Phuket’s social scene is alive and kicking and it looks as if things are on the up, no matter how hard Bangkok might try to screw it...

Mom Tri's Boathouse Regatta at Royal Phuket Marina

Ad: Royal Phuket Marina. Tel: 076-360-855. VVV Mom Tri’s Boathouse in Kata Beach is well known as one of Phuket’s best fine-dining restaurants. Mom Tri’s has now expanded its scope to include a restaurant at Royal Phuket Marina. Mom Tri’s Boathouse Regatta was officially opened in December 2008. It’s a great little spot for wining and dining in a tranquil location, next to the marina and the yachts owned by the island’s playboys and ladies of luxury. The interior of the restaurant reflects the nautical location. There’s an open-air bar, a dining area and a large wine cellar. The menu is typical of Mom Tri’s with a variety of French and Thai dishes, including several signature dishes from the executive chefs of the Boathouse. The food is always top notch at Mom Tri’s, although it has the price tag to match. Definitely one to take somebody you are trying to...

Toto's Italian restaurant in Cherng Talay

Ad: Laguna Resort Entrance, Cherng Talay, Thalang. Tel: 076-271430. VV Toto’s is definitely among the better Italian restaurants in Phuket. Located just down the road from Little India and the entrance to Laguna Phuket, Toto’s was founded by Bepy Graziani di Ceneda, a much-loved expat who passed away recently. His legacy lives on, however, as his restaurant continues to serves up great pasta dishes and some of the best pizzas in town. The tomato sauce used on the pizzas is simply divine. The vibe in the restaurant can be a little dry if it’s a particularly quiet night, but the setting is pleasant enough that you can have an enjoyable meal. They have a specials board with a range of interesting dishes. Toto’s is one of the few Italian restaurants in Phuket that is worth making the effort to find. Perhaps not quite as good and personal as La Gaetana, but Toto’s is no slouch when it comes to Italian...

Little India restaurant in Cherng Talay

Ad: 394 Moo 1, Cherng Talay, Thalang. Next to the Laguna Phuket entrance. Tel: 076-270673. VV Little India is a great restaurant for Indian food in Phuket. The restaurant is small, with only a handful of tables, but the vibe is what makes this restaurant stand out. Rather than opting for the standard decor you see in most Phuket Indian restaurants, Little India looks more like a furniture showroom and it also has the same cutlery as used at the Indigo Pearl resort at Nai Yang Beach. The food is really good, with a basic of prawn, lamb, chicken and vegetable dishes, as well as the usual accompaniments of nan breads, rice and poppadoms. Little India restaurant is priced about right for the quality of the food on offer. The house wine, however, is nothing to write home about. Expect to pay about 400 baht for half a liter. Little India is located just up the road from Toto’s. If you’re in Cherng Talay, this is the place to go for Indian food. The staff are pretty friendly at this Phuket restaurant, although don’t seem too interested in what’s going on. The food and the setting make up for this,...

Babylon Beach Club at Bang Tao Beach

Ad: Bang Tao Beach, past Amora Hotel and turn left. Tel: 081-9705302. Web: www.babylonbeachclub.com VV Few restaurants in Phuket can beat Babylon Beach Club in terms of ambience. Located right next to the sea at Bang Tao Beach, Babylon Beach Club offers great food in a real beach setting. This Bang Tao restaurant has a kind of rustic feel to it, looking more like a beach hut than a restaurant. The menu contains a good variety of Western and Thai food. The Babylon Platter features shrimp cakes, spring rolls and satay — recommended. The Thai food is delicious and there is also a tasty selection of desserts for afters. Babylon Beach Club is all about the location and is worth making the journey for. A lot of beachside restaurants in Phuket fall short because they’re too popular for their own good, generally marketed towards tourists. Babylon Beach Club is more popular with Phuket’s expat and local...

Farang Restaurant in Phuket City and Cherng Talay

Ad: Off Chaloem Kiat Rd, next to Index, Phuket City. Tel: 086-9463142. Ad: 120/6 Cherngtalay, Thalang. Tel: 081-6207429. VV There are two Farang Restaurants in Phuket: one in Phuket City, next to the bypass road, and one in Cherng Talay. The food at both is almost identical, but the experience at the Cherng Talay restaurant is slightly superior. Farang Restaurant is a long-time establishment founded by the former head chef of a five-star hotel. The menu features pasta dishes, pizza and some great meat dishes. The food is exceptional and, for the price, it’s a real shining light among places to eat in Phuket. The pasta dishes are especially good, as is the beef sirloin. The presentation is really out of this world for such a small restaurant. Most of the dishes are fusion meals, with a few Thai offerings thrown in for a local touch. A rarity among Phuket eateries, the house wine is palatable, too. Farang Restaurant can also lay claim to serving up the best brownies in Phuket, as well as a fantastic apple...

Rivet Grill at Indigo Pearl in Nai Yang

Ad: Indigo Pearl resort, Nai Yang Beach and National Park. Tel: 076-327 006, 076-327015. Web: www.indigo-pearl.com VVV Definitely the best steaks in Phuket. Rivet Grill is among the elite of restaurants in Phuket. If you fancy a splurge and you have a taste for steak, Rivet Grill is the complete package. Located at Indigo Pearl resort in Nai Yang, Rivet Grill is understandably expensive, but the choice cuts of meat put other Phuket restaurants to shame. The ambience is chilled, with all the familiar touches that make Indigo Pearl such a unique resort. There are a range of starters to choose from and a decent variety of side dishes, but it’s the steaks that are the real charm. The steaks come from Australia, New Zealand and the US, so whatever your preference, you’ll be able to find something to chew on. Being located in a high-end resort, there is, of course, a fine selection of wines to choose from, or else there is a decent cocktail...
