The situation in Bangkok right now has the world wondering what the heck is going on in this country. It’s a sad state of affairs and it’s going to impact tourism in Phuket for several months. Right now, Phuket Airport is Thailand’s primary international airport.
Luckily for Phuket, the trouble is all in Bangkok, but that isn’t going to be enough to persuade the world’s tourists to visit the island. This is about as bad as it has been in Thailand for several years. Even after the coup of 2006 it wasn’t bad. The coup actually proved to be a popular tourist attraction. The PAD taking over Bangkok’s two main airports is scaring tourists away.
All we can do is hope that the country can straighten itself out and find a way to end the deadlock. Tourism will bounce back. It recovered after the tsunami and the Bangkok bombs, so it’s only a matter of time. Phuket’s beaches will be a lot quieter for a while.
