Things to do in Patong on a Phuket vacation

Phuket is a popular island, we all know that, and so if you’re thinking about spending the bulk of your Phuket vacation in the most popular part of the island – Patong – you should get a fair idea of what the place is like. There are heaps of things to do in Patong, but bear in mind that this place isn’t for everyone.

There are a lot of annoyances in Patong, so if any of these are high on your list things you want to avoid on your Phuket vacation, you might be better off staying somewhere else. For a start, there are lots of people. Even during low season, Patong is busy. It’s where people usually begin and end their holidays, as well as spending some of the time in the middle there.

But it’s only people, right? Well, it is, but people in Patong are usually there to party. There are lots of groups of lads and lasses on a Phuket vacation to have a few drinks, dance and generally enjoy themselves. So the place can get a little boisterous.

But those are the annoyances. They aren’t the be all and end of all of spending time in Patong. If you’re on a Phuket vacation, chances are you’re going to want to do some shopping. Well, Patong is the place to be for that. You can find pretty much anything you want, from DVDs and T-shirts to wood carvings and Gameboys.

Jungceylon is the big mall in Patong, although it’s a little pricey by Thai standards. It does, however, have a fine selection of clothing and electronics if you want to pick any of that kind of stuff up while on a Phuket vacation.

The streets are lined with market stalls, most of which will try and sell you watches, DVDs or T-shirts. The sellers can be very persistent and they will try and shake your hand and engage you in conversation. If you ignore them they act all offended and then swear at you. You can’t win really. Say hello, but avoid the handshake – they never let go.

And last, but certainly not least, we come to the primary reason why most people choose to spend some of their Phuket vacation in Phuket: nightlife. There are bars and clubs everywhere, including Club Lime on the beach road for cheesy dance music foam parties and Seduction for really loud hip hop and 4/4 beats. It’s not exactly a real club scene, but it’ll do.

Enjoy your time in Patong.
