World championship boxing comes to Phuket Town
We’re pretty excited about an event in Phuket Town this week. For the first time since we’ve been here, there is going to be a world title boxing match in Phuket. It’s happening tomorrow (Wednesday) at Saphan Hin. If you’ve ever been in Saphan Hin then you’ll know that this kind of sporting event is going to attract thousands of people.
Throw into the mix the fact that the boxing match is free entrance and you have one of the greatest sports events in Phuket for years. Undefeated WBC minimum-weight champ Oleydong Sithsamerchai, a Thai fighter, will put his belt up against Japanese fighter Junichi Ebisuoka.
We’ve got to go with the home fighter in this case. We think that he is going to walk over the challenger. This Phuket fight card kicks off at 3 pm with four boxing fights on the undercard as well as a bunch of Muay Thai bouts before the main event, which should start at about 6 pm.
It’s going to be raucous and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Sports events such as this one don’t come around a whole lot in Phuket, so if you’re in the area, take the chance to head to Saphan Hin, if only to savour the atmosphere.
The whole event will be broadcast live from Phuket on Channel 7. After the fight, there will be no better time to check out some of the Phuket Town nightlife.
